This last week on our D&D game night, I had a row of perfect root beer floats before me. Then I dropped in the spoons… 😩
I believe I’ve got the process nailed down now, and here’s how I pour root beer floats with a minimum amount of foam!
First, the root beer. I don’t like A&W, Mug is OK, and Barq’s is my favorite but doesn’t go well with ice cream. I found this brand at Dan’s Foods:

This is particularly great for our group as one of the players in the group is called Howie! And it’s made in Orem, Utah! Hires is another great root beer, but nearly impossible to find in town here.
- 1) Hold the glass at a 45 degree angle and pour in the root beer. I use big plastic 7-11 cups.
- 2) Add spoons and straws.
- 3) Slowly lower a scoop of ice cream on a spoon to lay on top of the root beer. Add additional scoop if desired.
- 4) Let it sit for 2-3 minutes so that the temperature of the ice cream and soda equalize.
That’s it! Enjoy!
I got these spoons off Amazon for stuff like root beer floats and they’re the perfect height for the 7-11 cups:

I think its more fun when you throw it all together and let it erupt like a volcano… It keeps you on your toes. 😮
It does make it more of a “dinner and a show” that way! 😅
